Did You Know: Kirk Hammett
September 28, 2007 by Jo Minor · Leave a Comment
Did you know that Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett used to take lessons from renowned fusion guitarist Joe Satriani? This was the time before he left San Francisco thrash metal luminary Exodus to replace Dave Mustaine?s position (who just got himself fired) in the Metallica camp.
?
Hammett is not shy to go back to school when he feels the need to do so. Before the Load/ Re-Load recording sessions, he actually took guitar classes and honed his skills in blues guitar - you can hear the results in some of the songs in the aforementioned albums. Check out the amazing blues-tinged guitar solo in ?Ain?t My Bitch? from Load!
Did You Know: Paul Gilbert

Did you know that guitar virtuoso Paul Gilbert is known for spraying WD-40 on the fretboards of his guitars prior to playing them? According to interviews with the Ibanez-endorsed man the WD-40 lubricant helps his fingers move up and down the fretboard and keeps everything smooth and slippery. I?m pretty sure the WD-40 helps him keep his strings cleaner too!

Did you know that the soundtrack of the basketball video game NBA Live 2003 is the only video game soundtrack to reach platinum status? Electronic Arts Inc, who produced the game, can thank their worldwide executive of music Steve Schnur for the remarkable achievement. Schnur was responsible for selecting the tracks to be included in the game, as well as in other titles such as the extremely popular Burnout and Madden NFL series.

Did you know that Jada Pinkett Smith, actress and wife of actor/rapper Will Smith, is a vocalist in a metal band? She once appeared on stage with her band as a surprise during Ozzfest once. If you think she?s the ultimate part-time musician, think again ? WWE wrestler Chris Jericho is also a vocalist in his own metal band, and has appeared as guest vocalist on a few pretty well known metal compilation albums.
Zakk Wylde: In Trouble Again
September 27, 2007 by Jo Minor · Leave a Comment

Zakk Wylde, of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Label Society fame, got into trouble again. This time, he was involved in another bar fight ? one that did not involve his wife punching him ? and kept fans and the media waiting at the Boston Hard Rock Caf? grand opening party.
Apparently, he went to a bar in Boston, got absolutely drunk and started letting his fists fly. Yup. That?s probably better than making another dull Black Label Society album.
Victoria?s Vicious Words

Known to speak her mind, Victoria Beckham (also 1/5th of the newly reunited Spice Girls) has launched a scathing attack on actor Eddie Murphy ? who got her gal pal Mel B impregnated.
?
Victoria ranted about Murphy during her new reality show, Victoria Beckham: Coming To America. Strangely, that?s also the title of one of Murphy?s movies. Guess she didn?t see that one, huh?
?
She also mocked Tom Cruise?s obsession with Scientology, and even let loose her ferocious temper out on the celebrity couples new personal assistant when the helper asked if she would have to personally assist David.
?
I guess the States now have one more celebrity to hate.
Prison Isn?t A Hilton

So Paris has unwillingly traded her lofty abodes of luxury for the iron curtain ? so does that mean she will stop polluting the airwaves with her sloppy attempts at singing? Even though she did mention not returning to making music ever again, I don?t trust spoilt brats ? so let?s kick her while she?s down and remember some of the finest moments of Miss Hilton?s incarceration:
?
More Prison Time
60% of drunk-driving inmates are released after 4 days behind bars. More than 80% of these offenders don?t serve more than 23 days ? Paris will spend 45 days in prison.
?
A First
Paris will be the first inmate in years to be allowed back to jail to finish her sentence after being released prematurely to visit a shrink.
?
23 Days
If she does serve the 23 days behind bars, Paris will have gone through the equal amount of punishment as 4,000 inmates who since 2002 had been charged with assaults, as well as more than 1,800 charged with burglary, more than 2,600 charged with domestic violence and nearly 11,000 charged with drug violations. I guess that?s the price to pay for being such a whiny little rich kid!
?
Bitch
Female inmates around the US were excited about the prospect of having Paris as their prison bitch for 45 days. One inmate stated that she ?would love to teach that bitch a thing or two, what with having a privileged life and all. Most of us already have a few ideas of what we?d like to do with her.? ?The girl obviously craves attention. She would be my bitch in about a half an hour if she ends up in my cell?, another equally enthusiastic inmate said. Ooh, looks like you?ll have a private party or two in the prison, Paris!
The Nirvana Baby

Ever wondered who the baby on Nirvana?s classic album Nevermind, or what happened to him? And yes, it?s a boy ? if you didn?t notice the tiny member on the cover.
?
MTV.com answered this week when it tracked down the tot, named Spencer Elden and now a 17-year-old high school student in Eagle Rock, California. Elden’s parents were paid $200 to allow their friend, photographer Kirk Weddle, to shoot a roll of pictures of the infant Elden swimming for the cover of the iconic 1991 disc.
?
Now the teen admits that it’s a little strange to think that more than nine million people own a nude picture of him. He said, “Yeah, it’s kind of creepy that that many people have seen me naked. I feel like I’m the world’s biggest porn star.”
Paris: Freedom?

Paris Hilton, the socialite of sorts that currently serving time behind bars, is scheduled to to appear on CNN?s Larry King Live the day after she will be released. She is expected to make the hour long appearance.
?
As the TV networks battle to get to Paris first ? to hear her side of the story ? CNN somehow emerged as the winner as both ABC and NBC withdrew their efforts to get Paris on their talk shows.
?
It seems like Paris will never know the true meaning of being free. As the media hound her every move, it would be that Paris is cursed to crawl under the flashes of the cameras until she loses her popularity.

Fans of the legendary Jimi Hendrix can rejoice ? to some extent. No, they haven?t reanimated Jimi, or created a hologram of him of some sort. The Experience Hendrix Tour will showcase some of the greatest musicians of our time in honour of the music and the legacy of Jimi Hendrix.
?
The Experience Hendrix Tour will feature artists who will perform music written by and associated with Jimi Hendrix, including blues giant Buddy Guy, pedal steel innovator Robert Randolph, contemporary guitar greats Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
?
Special guests include Robby Krieger, guitarist of The Doors, Rolling Stones veteran guitarist Mick Taylor and Hubert Sumlin, the Mississippi-born guitarist who worked with both Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters.
