MTV.com reported that Hilly Kristal, the founder of the famous New York punk rock scene CBGB, died on Tuesday from complications from lung cancer at the age of 75.

Kristal, who helped the punk rock revolution of the mid-70s, was the advocate of bands like The Ramones, Talking Heads, Television, Prong and Blondie, among others. CBGB, which opened in December 1973, was officially called CBGB & OMFUG, which stood for “Country, Bluegrass, Blues and Other Music for Uplifting Gormandizers.”

There were plans to relocate the venue to Las Vegas following a final show in October 2006, but it never materialised.

Britney?s Comeback?

Entertainment Weekly reported that Britney Spears? much talked about new single is coming out as soon as early September. The single, entitled ?Gimme More? in true Britney fashion, is (another) up-tempo dance track by the pop queen and will be produced by Nate ?Danjahandz? Hills.

The video for the single was already shot earlier, and plans for her upcoming record are going up in smoke. Apparently, her record label is preparing for her latest CD with little to absolutely no promo. It seems that she has become a liability to them, and want her career to self-destruct!

We hope for the best, and pray that Britney will resort to a career in pornography really soon.

After American Idol

The producers of the hit TV reality show American Idol are planning a second show based on Idol?s mechanics, and will include bands this time. The show, entitled The Next Great American Band, will incorporate John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls, among others, as judges. Their first job will be to narrow down all auditioning bands to the best 10. After the elimination process, the selected 10 will have to perform original tracks as well as covers week in and week out in front of a studio audience.

As with American Idol, the judges will comment on their performance but viewers will cast the votes to decide who stays and who gets the ticket back home. The final 3 surviving bands will then battle it out to win a recording contract with show creator Simmon Fuller?s 19 Recordings.
